Compass Group PLC on Thursday reported improved performance in the first quarter of fiscal 2021 compared with the fourth quarter of fiscal 2020, which the company attributed to actions taken by the board over the year.
The U.K. catering contractor said organic revenue for the quarter ended Dec. 31 fell 33.7% on year, compared with a 34.1% fall in the preceding quarter, while its underlying operating margin improved to 2.7% from 0.6%.
Compass had guided for 2.5% underlying operating profit margin for the quarter. It said that the board expects second-quarter operating margin to improve by a further 50 to 100 basis points.
"Looking further ahead, we remain excited about the significant structural market opportunity globally, a return to organic revenue growth, continued margin improvement and returns to shareholders over time," the company said.
