German retailer Metro AG (MEO.XE) plans to analyze a proposed new ownership structure for rival German retailer Karstadt, but isn't under any time pressure to launch a merger between Karstadt and its own Kaufhof unit, a Metro spokesman said Monday.
Metro has long talked about acquiring some of Karstadt's stores and merging them with Kaufhof to create a giant German department store conglomerate.
Earlier Monday, Karstadt's insolvency administrator said investment fund Berggruen Holdings had won a bidding process to acquire Karstadt.
