Mano River Resources Inc. (TSX VENTURE:MNO)(AIM:MANA)("Mano" or "the Company") the TSX-V and AIM-listed exploration and development company focussed on gold, diamonds and iron ore in West Africa, announces: - Highly encouraging results from deep diamond drilling at its New Liberty Gold Project - Assay results from the first eight holes received - All eight holes intersected ultramafic schist units, host to the gold mineralisation - Two of the six holes drilled to the minus 200m level returned some of the best intersections ever achieved at New Liberty, i.e.: K-115 23m grading 4.95 g/t gold (including 12m at 9.12g/t) K-116 31m grading 3.59 g/t gold (including 17m at 7.03 g/t) - Both deep holes drilled to the minus 500m level confirmed the presence of the gold zone, the better intersection being: K-120 19m grading 1.18 g/t gold (including 3m at 6.21 g/t) The New Liberty Gold project lies within a 1,000km2 combined exploration and mining licence termed a Mineral Development Agreement ('MDA') in Grand Cape Mount County, western Liberia, 100km north west of Monrovia. It is held 100% by Mano, subject to a 10% free carried interest and a 3% production royalty, both held by the Government of Liberia. 2008 Drilling Programme Subsequent to the completion of the New Liberty Feasibility Study in early 2007, a review concluded that there was a need to define, from the outset, an operation with a longer life than that envisaged in the Study, which had considered only an open pit operation. The main objective of the current drilling programme is to enable mineral resources currently classed as 'indicated' in the Feasibility Study to be reclassified as 'measured' and, in addition, potentially to increase the overall resource base and thus the mine life. The 2007 NI 43-101 gold resource was estimated at 1.4 million ounces (13.533 million tonnes of measured and indicated resources grading 3.18 g/t gold). In 1Q 2008, the Company commenced a mineral resource/reserve delineation drilling programme, focussing initially on the Larjor Zone, the first results of which are now to hand. In all, 4,485m of drilling have been completed to date under this programme. Assay results from holes drilled under the Kinjor and Marvoe zones, further to the east, are expected by month end. The programme comprises a series of close-spaced drill holes at a depth of around 200m below surface, together with two holes drilled to about 500m below surface under Larjor to test for very deep extensions to the mineralisation. Shear-controlled gold deposits of Archaean age, like New Liberty, are typically characterised by a considerable third dimension at depth, now being investigated at New Liberty for the first time. All eight holes under Larjor intersected the sheared ultramafic schists hosting the mineralisation at New Liberty, and all of them returned indications of the presence of the gold zone. Two of the six plus or minus 200m holes returned extremely good results, namely, intersections of 23m grading 4.85g/t gold and 31m grading 3.59 g/t gold, respectively. The remaining four returned sub-economic but nevertheless highly anomalous gold zones, the best of which was in K-121 with 27m grading 0.67 g/t. The two deep holes under Larjor both intersected the ultramafic rock units at the anticipated depth i.e. some 450 to 480m vertically below surface, and both were mineralised. K120 gave the better results with 19m at 1.2 g/t gold including a 3m section grading 6.2 g/t. A complete list of the assay results appears in Table 1 below. This is considered an extremely encouraging outcome for the potential to increase resources, given that of the 93 holes forming the basis for the 2007 Feasibility Study, none were drilled significantly deeper than 100m below surface. These targets are in addition to the Weaju and Gondoja satellite deposits, where drilling has already taken place with encouraging results. Community Initiatives During the exploration phase on the Bea MDA, in addition to direct employment by Mano of local people which at times has totalled over fifty individuals, local communities have already benefited from a major ongoing programme of road and bridge building. At Weaju, the Company has built a school capable of accommodating over 100 pupils. In the longer term, once the new mine is in production, the communities of Grand Cape Mount and adjacent counties stand to benefit from what is scheduled to become Liberia's first ever major hard-rock gold mine. In addition to the many direct employment and training opportunities, there will be indirect employment from sustained activities, which it is hoped may include linking the New Liberty gold deposit at Kinjor/Larjor to Mano's Weaju project. Social infrastructure improvements would include power, educational and health provisions, and better local roads. Experience elsewhere in the world suggests that, for every direct employee at the new mine, there will be from 5 to 10 further jobs created in support and service industries in the immediate area. Agricultural projects related to the communities are also contemplated. Mano has been pioneering hard-rock exploration for gold in Liberia since access to the licence was first gained in the second half of 1997, more than 10 years ago and, despite interruptions, the Company has persevered in its aim of moving its projects closer to feasibility. Many exploration companies have been motivated by Mano's prime mover publicity for Liberia, and there are now more than 10 gold exploration companies active in the country. It is hoped that Mano will continue to lead the way by opening the first of many new gold mines in Liberia over the next 10 years. Luis da Silva, CEO of Mano, comments: "This first phase of our deep drilling programme has yielded encouraging results, which have backed up the predicted nature of the New Liberty ore body and potentially give us the ability to significantly increase the resource ounces of gold. A further programme of drilling will now be planned to provide definition for resource modelling. Underground mining methods will also be investigated as part of conducting a comprehensive new feasibility study for NLGM, with completion in 2009." Note to Editors Overview of the New Liberty Gold Project The 2007 New Liberty Feasibility Study, exclusively for an open pit operation, was undertaken by independent consultants, MDM Engineering Pty Ltd of Johannesburg, South Africa, together with Lower Quartile Solutions Pty Ltd of Perth, Australia. Tailings dam design was carried out by Golder & Associates. The geology of the deposit is a well-defined steeply dipping zone up to 30m thick of gold mineralisation hosted by metamorphosed ultramafic schists. The base case for the Feasibility Study involved open pit contract mining from three pits, Larjor, Kinjor and Marvoe, over an initial estimated mine life of seven years. The average stripping ratio was estimated at 11.5 to 1. The deposit exhibits simple metallurgy with overall gold recoveries of 93% being indicated by the study testwork, involving a process of initial gravity separation with a recovery of 30-40% of the gold, followed by standard carbon-in-leach treatment. Mano's Qualified Person responsible for preparing this release is its Director, Dr Tom Elder, who holds a BSc and Doctorate in Geology from the University of Durham in the UK, is a Fellow and former Member of Council of the Institution of Mining and Metallurgy, and a Fellow of the Geological Society.
