e-cbot sets all-time trading volume record CHICAGO, Aug. 30 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT(R)) announced today that yesterday the Exchange experienced its highest daily trading volume in its 158-year history. Total Exchange volume was 6,522,607 contracts, surpassing the previous all-time record of 6,003,976 contracts set on November 29, 2005. Yesterday's total marks the second time total CBOT volume topped six million contracts. CBOT President and CEO Bernard W. Dan said, "Highly liquid markets, unparalleled access to a broad range of trading opportunities and a premier electronic trading environment at the CBOT were all critical to the Exchange achieving the best day in its history. These records are a testament to our market participants' high level of confidence in both the Exchange's electronic trading platform, e-cbot(R), and in our open auction markets." The Exchange also reached a new high-mark for electronic trading volume on e-cbot, which climbed to 4,946,515 contracts. The previous record, 4,451,291 contracts, was set on May 31, 2006. The Exchange set numerous electronic trading records en route to yesterday's total electronic volume milestone. New electronic trading records include: -- Total electronic futures trading volume rose to 4,872,251 contracts, surpassing the previous record of 4,385,979 contracts, set on May 31, 2006. -- Total electronic Financial futures and options trading volume was 4,713,568 contracts, besting the earlier record of 4,260,677 contracts, set on May 31, 2006. -- Ten-Year Treasury Note futures topped the two million mark in daily electronic volume for the first time. With a record 2,121,335 contracts traded, 10-Year Treasury Note futures beat the old record of 1,957,403 contracts, set on May 30, 2006. -- Five-Year Treasury Note futures set a daily electronic record with 1,278,552 contracts traded. The previous record, 1,174,182 contracts, was set on May 31, 2006. In addition to the new electronic trading records, the Exchange also set two combined volume records. The CBOT set a record for total combined futures volume, with 6,008,850 contracts traded on Tuesday. The previous record, 5,595,548 contracts, was set on November 29, 2005. Five-Year Treasury Note futures added a combined volume record to the electronic volume record set yesterday. The new record, 1,625,514 contracts, surpassing the prior high mark, 1,385,306 contracts, set on November 29, 2005. Combined volume records include both open auction and electronic trading volume totals.
