Mr Eric Diack has advised that he will resign as a director of The Tongaat-Hulett Group Limited on 27 November 2003.

In anticipation of Mr Diack's resignation, Mr Philip Baum has been appointed as a non-executive director to the board of
The Tongaat-Hulett Group Limited with effect from 23 September 2003. He has also been appointed to the Executive 
Committee of the Board as well as to the Remuneration and Audit and Compliance Committees.

Mr Baum is the Chief Operating Officer of Anglo American Corporation of South Africa Limited. He joined Anglo American 
in 1979 and took up his current position on 1 January 2001.
