                        Pre-close period trading update                        

In advance of entering the close period ahead of its preliminary results
announcement, Christian Salvesen PLC, the European logistics company, confirms
that trading in the period since the trading update issued on 19th February
2003 has been in line with expectations.

The implementation of the actions emanating from its business review, also
announced on 19th February, is proceeding according to plan. As previously
stated these actions are aimed at reorganising and refocusing the UK operations
and achieving significant cost reductions across the Group.

Preliminary results for the year to 31st March 2003 will be announced on 3rd
June 2003.
