Siemens AG on Monday said that its mobility unit received its largest-ever order of locomotives, which are destined for India, for an overall contract value of approximately $3.25 billion.
The German industrial company said its mobility unit received an order for 1,200 electric locomotives from Indian Railways. The unit will design, manufacture, commission and test the locomotives and, as part of the contract, will also provide 35 years worth of service and maintenance.
The delivery of the locomotives is planned over an 11-year period, Siemens said.
