SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Crews from Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) have made significant progress in making repairs to the utility's electrical system after the year's first major storm hit northern California Tuesday morning. As of noon on Wednesday, PG&E crews have restored power to 91% of the more than 700,000 customers impacted by power outages by the storm. The utility has mobilized all available crews to restore power to the remaining 63,000 customers as quickly as safety allows. While PG&E expects to have power restored to the vast majority of those customers today and tomorrow, some customers in the hardest hit areas of the Sacramento and San Joaquin valleys, Sierra Nevada foothills, and central coast should prepare to be without electricity for a few days. "Restoring power safely and quickly is our number one priority," said Mark Johnson, vice president of electric operations and engineering for PG&E. "We are working hard with all available resources, including contract crews, to limit the number of customers who experience extended outages. PG&E crews will remain mobilized as long as necessary to restore power to all customers." The company continues to urge everyone to be safe, especially if driving in and around areas where trees have been toppled. To report a downed power line, call 911 immediately and then PG&E at 1-800-PGE-5002. Pacific Gas and Electric Company, a subsidiary of PG&E Corporation (NYSE: PCG), is one of the largest combined natural gas and electric utilities in the United States. Based in San Francisco, with 20,000 employees, the company delivers some of the nation's cleanest energy to 15 million people in northern and central California.
