Mellon, University of Pittsburgh Accepting Applications for
Pitt/Mellon Jazz Scholarship
PITTSBURGH, April 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Mellon Financial Corporation and the
University of Pittsburgh today announced that applications are being accepted
for the Pitt/Mellon Jazz Scholarship. The winner will be announced in June,
with the scholarship to be presented on Sunday, June 6th, prior to the Mellon
Jazz concert at Hartwood Acres taking place as part of the Allegheny County
Summer Concert Series.
The one-year, $5,000 Pitt/Mellon Jazz Scholarship is awarded on the basis of
musical ability as demonstrated by an audition tape that includes samplings of
various musical styles. Any full-time undergraduate student who will be
enrolled at Pitt during the fall 2004 semester is eligible to apply for the
scholarship. This year's award will mark the 18th presentation of this
scholarship.
The current Pitt/Mellon Jazz scholar, percussionist Anjinka "Jinx" Jogelkar of
Philadelphia, also is a participant in the Brackenridge Fellowship program
through Pitt's Honors College. Drummer for a local jazz trio, Jogelkar also
performs regularly with professional jazz musicians at jam sessions throughout
the city.

Cotton, Mellon senior vice president and director of corporate affairs. "This
18th renewal of the Pitt/Mellon scholarship underscores the strength and
duration of our commitment to these education-related aspects of the Mellon
Jazz program."
Applications for the Pitt/Mellon Jazz Scholarship must be submitted by
