NY and NJ Amputees to Run/Walk One Mile to Raise Money and
Awareness for Child Amputees
Media Invited to Meet Local Amputees, See Bionic Prosthetic Legs, Participate
in the Run/Walk, and Help Raise Awareness for Children
SPRING LAKE, N.J., Sept. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- An amputation is a major set back
for anyone. No matter how strong your will and determination, the road to
recovery is long and challenging. But, with the help of Hanger certified
prosthetists and the newest prosthetic technologies available, patients can
resume their everyday lives with less challenges and obstacles.
In a benefit to raise awareness and money to send amputee children to the
Amputee Coalition of America's (ACA) Amputee Camp for Children, Hanger
Prosthetics & Orthotics, numerous industry related manufacturers, and amputees
from New Jersey and New York will gather in Spring Lake, New Jersey for the
Hanger MPK- 1.6k Boardwalk Challenge.
On Saturday, September 11, 2004, media are invited to experience firsthand how
amputees are able to overcome tremendous setbacks and compete in a one- mile
walk/run on the Boardwalk of Spring Lake. The event will begin at 9:00am at
the Breakers on the Ocean with a safety check of the micro-processing knee
units and prostheses. At 10:00am, the Challenge will start with a moment of
silence in remembrance of the 9/11 tragedies and a prayer and ribbon cutting by
Honorable Thomas J. Byrne III (Mayor of Spring Lake, N.J.), Bradford Deudne
C.O. (Hanger NY & NJ Vice President), and Gwen Tschorke (Grand Marshall,
Amputee). The Challenge will start at the gazebo directly across from the
Breakers Hotel heading south on the Boardwalk 1/2 mile and returning to the
start/finish line for the completion.

Richard and Maureen. Brady is the first child to be sponsored by Hanger NY & NJ
to attend the ACA's Amputee Camp. Brady suffers from ectrodactylism, which
required numerous surgeries, leaving her a bilateral above-knee amputee.
