                             THE HARTFORD GROUP PLC

The Board of Hartford Group Plc is pleased to announce the appointment of Rodney
David Pickard FRICS as a non-executive director with immediate effect.

David Pickard, aged 60, is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Surveyors,
Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and Companion of the Institute of
Management. Until 1st June 2001, David was Managing Director of Colliers Conrad
Ritblat Erbman, where he was largely credited with taking it to its current
position of being a leading provider of leisure and UK Real Estate Consultancy
Services.

David's current non-executive and advisory responsibilities include:  the
rationalization and integration of Kingfisher Leisure while at Springwood
Leisure PLC;   at Thomas Holdings Ltd, a holding company for Beacon
Entertainments, Showboat and Casino Slots, he undertook the future planning of
the company's strategy to take full advantage of the New Gaming Act.

The directorships held by David, over the five years preceding the date of
appointment, are as follows:

Current:  Thomas Holdings Ltd;  Springwood Leisure Plc;  and Teesland Plc.
Previous: Milner Consultancies Plc; Colliers Conrad Ritblat Erbman Ltd;
          Robert Barry & Co Ltd


There are no other matters which are required to be announced pursuant to
paragraph (f) of Schedule 2 to the AIM Rules.
