BOSTON, May 8 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Eaton Vance National Municipal Income Trust (NYSE Alternext US: FEV) (the "Trust"), a closed-end management investment company, today announced the earnings of the Trust for the three months ended February 28, 2009. The Trust's fiscal year ends on November 30, 2009.
For the three months ended February 28, 2009, the Trust had net investment income of $1,110,311 ($0.261 per common share). From this amount, the Trust paid dividends on preferred shares of $51,376 (equal to $0.012 for each common share), resulting in net investment income after the preferred dividends of $1,058,935, or $0.249 per common share. In comparison, for the three months ended February 29, 2008, the Trust had net investment income of $1,016,664 ($0.239 per common share). From this amount, the Trust paid dividends on preferred shares of $343,479 (equal to $0.081 for each common share), resulting in net investment income after the preferred dividends of $673,185, or $0.158 per common share.
Net realized and unrealized gains for the three months ended February 28, 2009 were $5,228,892 ($1.228 per common share). In comparison, net realized and unrealized losses for the three months ended February 29, 2008 were $9,246,662 ($2.172 per common share).
On February 28, 2009, net assets of the Trust applicable to common shares were $42,989,324.
