RNS Number:7586M Expomedia Group PLC 25 June 2003 Trading update The Board of Expomedia Group Plc ("Expomedia" or "Company") is pleased to provide an update to its shareholders with the progress that has been made in establishing new venues and exhibition organising teams in the territories outlined below. Germany Expomedia announced on 17 June 2003, that it had entered into a 20 year lease on a new 6,688 m2 multifunctional Expocentre in the centre of Cologne, which will be built to the Company's specification. It is anticipated that the Expocentre will be fully operational by November 2004. Expomedia is currently activating a German exhibition organising subsidiary and anticipates a number of title launches with existing partners for 2004. Russia In April 2002, Expomedia announced that agreement had been reached to lease a 20,000 m2 multifunctional ExpoSports Centre in the centre of Moscow. The centre's planning process is progressing well and its developers anticipate entering into the final detailed architectural planning stage leading to tendering with contractors within the next three months. We have made significant progress with negotiations to finance the construction of Moscow centre with several parties and envisage finalisation of this financing prior to commencement of construction. The first joint venture event in Moscow between Informa Group plc and our local exhibition organising company in Moscow, OOO Tsentralnye Yevropeyskiy Vistavskiy, "Wireless Russia" took place on 10 - 11 June at the Moscow Marriott. The event was a success and exceeded our expectations in both revenue and profits. Our activities with Informa will further expand with the exhibitions " Seafood Russia" and "Transport and Logistics Russia" in 2004 and the launch of a conference organising business in Moscow. A further 2 events, Flooring Russia, a joint venture with Montgomery International and Dolce Vita, have already been launched and will be held before the end of 2003 We expect to organise a total of 15 events in Moscow in 2004. The Company has also secured other joint ventures in Russia with Montgomery International Ltd, Penton Media Europe Ltd, Nurnberg Messe GmbH and IIR Exhibitions Ltd among others. These joint ventures will also provide the basis of the anchor tenancy for the new multifunctional ExpoSports Centre in Moscow. Holland Our exhibition organising joint venture in Holland, Telegraaf Expomedia Events, will organise 3 new consumer events in the last quarter of 2003 and we are planning a further 7 consumer events for 2004. Each event has extensive media backing from N.V Holdingmaatschappij De Telegraaf and its newspaper and magazine titles which are the market leaders in the Dutch market. In addition to the consumer events organised by Telegraaf Expomedia Events, we are also launching a number of highly specialised trade events on behalf of certain trade associations in niche sectors to be held in 2004. As previously announced, the construction of Expo XXI Amsterdam International Expocentre is due to commence in the Autumn with completion scheduled for the end of 2004. This centre is located next to the Amsterdam Stadium (home of Ajax football club), with excellent transport links. Publications On 9 June 2003 we announced that our 51% subsidiary, Mash Media Group, had acquired the publication "Exhibition Bulletin". We anticipate that the addition of this title to our existing titles will produce substantial synergies once it has been fully integrated into the existing portfolio. Mash Media already produces 6 titles aimed at the exhibition market, including three new titles launched in the last 9 months. We are planning further expansion in due course in this business through the publication of new titles such as Exposegodnia, a Russian edition of our UK title Exhibition News, due to be published in July 2003. Other Developments The Company has continued to look for new opportunities in existing and new markets and we expect that in the near future we will announce further developments in Germany, Russia and Holland and new ventures in India and Serbia-Montenegro. Outlook Despite the worldwide economic slowdown, our exhibition centre EXPO XXI Warsaw International Expocentre, and exhibition organising company, CEE Miedznarodowe Targi Warszawskie Sp. Z o.o., in Warsaw are showing signs of continued growth. The board also believes that Poland's anticipated entry into the EU in 2004 will enable Expomedia to capitalise on its strong position in Poland. Expomedia has now established exhibition organising ventures in Moscow, Amsterdam, Budapest and Warsaw and at each of these ventures, management teams have been successful in launching new exhibitions in each of these markets with the Company's international partners. The Board anticipates that the number of exhibitions will grow from 54 in 2003 to 77 exhibitions in 2004, representing a growth of 43 per cent. The Board anticipates that for the six months ending 30 June 2003, turnover for the Group will be approximately 10 per cent. ahead of turnover achieved for the same period in 2002. With the expansion of our operations into Germany, Russia and Holland and the continuing development of the new ExpoSports Centre in Russia, Expomedia will incur further expansion costs until the Expocentres become fully operational and revenue generating in 2004. The Board anticipates that additional expansion costs of approximately Euro2million will be incurred in the current financial year. As a result, the profit before taxation for the year ending 31 December 2003 will be broadly in line with the result achieved for the year ended 31 December 2002. The consequent increase in revenue from this expansion will not be realised until 2004 and 2005 when we expect to further accelerate our growth rate. The Company's interim report for the six months ending 30 June 2003 will be published by 30 September 2003. The Company has made significant progress during the current year in expanding its sphere of operations and the development of strong partnerships The Company is now well established to become a significant force in the international exhibitions and events industry.
