Beiersdorf AG said Wednesday that sales rose in the first quarter despite the coronavirus's impact on business, and the company backed its full-year guidance.
The German maker of personal-care products said sales came in at 1.95 billion euros ($2.4 billion) from EUR1.91 billion a year earlier. On an organic basis, sales grew 6.3%.
The consumer business segment registered an organic sales growth of 2.7% to EUR1.55 billion driven by dermatological brands Eucerin and Aquaphor as well as skin-care brand La Prairie, the company said.
The company said its tesa business segment had sales growth of 23.6% to EUR397 million, supported by strong performance in electronics and a recovery in the automotive industry.
Looking at the full year, Beiersdorf said it expects positive sales growth and anticipates the earnings-before-interest-and-taxes margin remaining at the prior year's level.
