Today, Pierre Graff, Chairman and CEO of Aéroports de Paris (Paris:ADP)
and Jean-Cyril Spinetta, Chairman and CEO of Air France-KLM signed a
protocol agreement concerning the design and operation of the S4
boarding satellite, the future extension of Paris-Charles de Gaulle
terminal 2E. This signature marks the official launch of the project and
illustrates Aéroports de Paris ambition to cooperate with customer
airlines from the preliminary design stage through to delivery of the
facilities. The building, with a capacity to handle over 7 million
passengers annually and intended for use by SkyTeam alliance members,
will enter into service in 2012. Initial construction work has already
begun to the East of the hub.
The protocol describes the main specifications of satellite 4 (handling
capacity, number of aircraft parking stands, level of IATA quality,
etc.), and defines the framework for cooperation between Aéroports de
Paris and Air France regarding project follow-up as well as the drafting
of specifications for the future baggage sorting systems at satellites 3
and 4.
"I am very pleased with the signing of these protocol agreements
which will benefit our two Groups and contribute to strengthening the
appeal of the hub at Paris-Charles de Gaulle. This agreement marks a
historic phase in the relationship between Aéroports de Paris and its
main customer Air France. This is the first time that we will be joining
forces with an airline to work on the preliminary design of a facility
on such a vast scale. Through our joint cooperation, we can accurately
pinpoint the customer’s requirements, fix the
necessary investment amounts and agree on the building delivery schedule”
states Pierre Graff, Chairman and CEO of Aéroports de Paris.
Jean-Cyril Spinetta, Chairman and CEO of Air France-KLM adds: “The
Air France teams are extremely pleased with their current relationship
with Aéroports de Paris, allowing them to build together a modern
and efficient facility for the Air France-KLM Group’s
customers”.
In 2007, Paris-Charles de Gaulle posted robust traffic growth of 5.4%,
handling a total of 59.9 million passengers, including 37 million
SkyTeam alliance customers.
With close to 1,000 daily flights, the Hub handles some 100,000
passengers departing from and arriving at the Hub on a daily basis, i.e.
over 40,000 passengers and 35,000 connecting bags. In this context,
Satellite 4 will be able to offer additional handling capacity in 2012,
contributing to the continued growth of the Paris-Charles de Gaulle Hub.
In an increasingly competitive environment, where all the major European
airports are seeking to secure a position as the main gateway into
Europe, the Paris-Charles de Gaulle Hub represents a major asset for
Aéroports de Paris and the SkyTeam alliance. It also incurs considerable
economic impact for the Ile-de-France region and the national economy in
general.
