After Great-Britain last February, Paris-Orly is the third airport in the world to display holograms at the boarding gate.
A real technological breakthrough, these holograms represent Aéroports de Paris (Paris:ADP) (Pink Sheets:AEOPF) customer service agents who lent their silhouettes and their voices to greet the passengers and let them know that their flight is about to board.
These holograms are enhancing the passenger service at Paris-Orly which represents 100 hosts and hostesses specializing in informing the travelers.
"To improve our clients' satisfaction, we have decided to turn Hall 40 of Terminal Ouest into an experimental space for new technologies. These holograms are the 1st experiment; they reflect our commitment to better serve the travelers throughout their journey and to provide them with real-time information while creating surprise and interest," pointed out Charles Telitsine, Terminal Ouest Manager.
Three Aéroports de Paris customer service agents accepted to lend their image for these holograms. Their silhouettes were custom-made, then they were filmed in an actual studio to create a strikingly life-like illusion. The video images are then rear-projected onto their human shaped silhouettes made of plexiglass when the boarding process starts.
Hall 40: Orly-West Innovation Space
Other innovations are currently displayed in Hall 40, such as various color lighting of the check-in counters: red for the business class passengers, blue for all other classes, or green for the luggage drop-off.
On the other hand, the installation of a "N°1 access" service allows a direct and rapid access to the plane through an automatic gate equipped with an optical reader able to scan the boarding passes. Finally, a children space has been added with interactive fish projected on the ground.
If these innovations are well received by the passengers, they could ultimately be installed in other terminals.
Boarding gate 40 is located in Hall 4 of Terminal Ouest. More than 900,000 passengers a year pass through that gate, on their way to destinations like Corsica, Biarritz, Brest, Clermont-Ferrand, Montpellier and Toulon.
