"Telecom Italia CEO: No Discussion About Sale of TIM Brazil," at 9:41 EST, misstated the status of the Telefonica-Telecom Italia transaction in the second paragraph. Telefonica hasn't yet increased its stake in Telco.
There has been intense scrutiny of Telecom Italia's activities in Brazil since Spain's Telefonica SA announced last year it was planning to increase its stake in Telco, a holding company that owns 22.4% of Telecom Italia. But the operation was frozen when the Brazilian antitrust authority raised concerns about Telefonica's position in the Brazilian market following the effective takeover of Telecom Italia from the Spanish company.
Telecom Italia controls TIM Participacoes SA while Telefonica controls Telefonica Brasil SA. Cade, as the anti-trust body is known, has given Telefonica a confidential deadline by which it must either dispose of TIM or seek a new partner for its own Brazilian unit, which operates under the Vivo brand.
