International stocks trading in New York closed higher on Wednesday.
Banco Santander S.A. (SAN) and BP PLC (BP) were among the companies with ADRs that traded actively.
The S&P/BNY Mellon index of American depositary receipts rose 0.3% to 142.21. The European index increased 0.3% to 131.11, the Asian index improved 0.3% to 169.03, the Latin American index rose 0.2% to 235.12 and the emerging markets index increased 0.2% to 307.09.
ADRs of Banco Santander S.A. fell 3.3% to $4.09. The Spanish banking company on Wednesday reported lower earnings for the third quarter. It took a $1.65 billion charge related to its business in the United Kingdom, largely because a difficult regulatory environment.
ADRs of BP PLC rose 1.4% to $38.46. The energy company on Tuesday reported a loss for the third quarter and lower revenue. On Wednesday, the company also said in a statement that "no decision has yet been made with respect to the 4Q 2019 or any future dividend."
