Piper Jaffray Hosts 17th Annual Health Care Conference in New
York
NEW YORK, Jan. 19 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Piper Jaffray & Co. is pleased to
host its 17th Annual Health Care Conference Tuesday-Thursday, Jan. 25-27 in New
York. This year's conference will feature presentations from over 120 of the
most highly regarded and influential public company management teams in the
biotechnology, specialty pharmaceuticals, health care facilities, drug
discovery, medical technology, medical diagnostics and devices and health care
services sectors. In addition, more than 50 of the leading late-stage private
companies in the health care universe will present.
Highlighting the conference will be five separate panels and special
presentations addressing high-profile issues affecting the entire health care
industry, including:
1. Spine Panel: Artificial Discs and the Future of Fusion
The panel will be comprised of three leading physicians and
researchers, including John Sherman, M.D., Thomas Errico, M.D. and
Terry Corbin. They will discuss artificial discs, the newest spine
technology, focusing on how this new technology will fit as a
substitute or complement to existing fusion products.
2. Current and Future Trends in Orthopedics
Rich Seldes, M.D., orthopedic surgeon and director of orthopedics at
North Shore University Hospital in Forest Hills, N.Y., Maryellen
Keenan, operating room business manager at the Hospital for Special
Surgery, and Richard Laskin, M.D., co-chief of the Knee Service:
Hospital for Special Surgery and professor of orthopedic surgery at
Weill Medical College of Cornell University, will lead a discussion on
current and future trends in orthopedics.
3. FDA Perspectives on Drug Development
Steven Galson, M.D., MPH, acting director of the Center of Drug
Evaluation and Research and the FDA, will lead a discussion on the FDA
perspectives on drug development.
4. Tomorrow's Role for Molecular Diagnostics
This panel features Ron McGlennen, M.D., president of Access Genetics,
Doug Harrington, M.D., chief executive officer of Specialty
Laboratories, Dr. Thomas White, chief scientific officer of Celera
Diagnostics and Gail Page, president of Ciphergen Diagnostics, will
lead a discussion on the future of molecular diagnostics with regard
to medical conditions/markers, technologies and providers.
5. "Blocking and Tackling" of Consumer-Directed Health care
This panel will be comprised of four executives who are helping to
drive the many changes necessary to meet the needs of a
consumer-driven health care system. Accordingly, this panel will
explore the multitude of operational, technological and financial
changes necessary to seamlessly deliver a consumer-directed health
care product, like today's Health care Savings Accounts (HSAs). The
panel will be comprised of: Robert Patricelli, chairman and chief
executive officer, Evolution Benefits; Bill Barr, executive vice
president, Health Plan Operations, The Regence Group; Tony Bellomo,
executive vice president, The Trizetto Group and Bradley Engel,
national health and welfare product leader, Mellon.
