Oshkosh Corp. on Tuesday said it will open a dedicated plant in Spartanburg, S.C., to build the next generation of delivery vehicles for the U.S. Postal Service under its multi-billion-dollar contract with the agency.
The Oshkosh, Wis., maker of specialty vehicles said it plans to hire more than 1,000 workers at the plant, adding that it expects its on-site supply-chain partners will have additional hiring needs.
The USPS in February awarded Oshkosh a 10-year contract to supply up to 165,000 new right-hand-drive vehicles for mail and package delivery, wrapping up a competitive bidding process that began in 2015.
Oshkosh said it plans to repurpose a warehouse facility in Spartanburg to accommodate the manufacturing operation, with production slated to begin in summer 2023.
