MINNEAPOLIS, Oct. 22  /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- IMC Global Inc. (NYSE:IGL) and
the Crop Nutrition division of Cargill, Incorporated, announced that they have
joined their businesses to form a new company, called The Mosaic Company
(NYSE:MOS), following today's successful closing of the combination
transaction.

Beginning on October 25, 2004, Mosaic's common stock will trade on the New York
Stock Exchange under the symbol MOS.

IMC common shareholders approved the combination at a special meeting held
October 20, 2004.  The proposed combination was announced on January 27, 2004.
