Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co. on Wednesday said it will build a new supercomputer to be used by the U.S. Department of Energy's National Renewable Energy Laboratory to support research and development into renewable power.
The new supercomputer will also support energy initiatives related to security, resilience and storage, among other issues, the company said.
Hewlett Packard Enterprise said it will build the computer, to be named Kestrel, using an HPE Cray EX supercomputer. Once completed in 2023, the new computer will have over five times greater performance than the National Renewable Energy Laboratory's existing system, according to Hewlett Packard Enterprise.
