Invensys PLC (ISYS.LN) has been approached informally over the past few weeks by four overseas firms which are interested in bidding for the U.K. engineering firm, the Sunday Times reports.
The paper says Invensys has attracted attention from Siemens AG (SI), ABB Ltd. (ABBN.VX), Emerson Electric (EMR) and General Electric Co. (GE).
Invensys has a market capitalization of GBP1.6 billion, but could fetch more than GBP2 billion if a bidding war breaks out, the paper says, without citing sources.
The report says the potential bidders "are thought" to have discussed options ranging from a purchase of the whole company to a breakup.
An Invensys spokesperson couldn't be immediately reached for comment.
