Duke Energy Corp. (DUK) on Monday unveiled plans for a pair of 74.9-megawatt solar power plants in Florida as part of a $1 billion, five-year solar program in the Sunshine State.
The Charlotte, N.C., utilities holding company said the plants will each consist of about 235,000 tracking solar panels and will each be capable of producing enough electricity to power roughly 23,000 homes at peak output.
Duke said it expects to break ground on the plants in March, with completion slated for late 2020.
Duke, which is investing $1 billion to build or acquire 700 megawatts of solar power facilities between 2018 and 2022, said it will have almost 370 megawatts under construction or in service by the middle of the year. The company said it is planning for another 1,500 megawatts of solar generation through 2028.
