A Delta Air Lines flight that was landing at La Guardia Airport skidded off the runway shortly after 11 a.m. Thursday morning, striking a fence, a law-enforcement official said.
Authorities said preliminary reports indicated that the plane might be spilling fuel.
The Fire Department of New York said there were no reported injuries. Delta wasn't immediately available for comment.
Delta said customers exited the aircraft via slides and were moved to the terminal on buses. The airline didn't immediately say whether there were any injuries.
Accounts posted on social media by people saying they were on board the aircraft said there were no injuries. Images posted to social media show a Delta plane with its nose through a chain-link fence.
Delta Flight 1086 began in Atlanta and landed in New York shortly before 11 a.m. local time.
There was snow on the ground at La Guardia, where airlines have canceled nearly 300 departing flights on Thursday.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, in a news release, said the airport's runways were currently closed as the result an aircraft incident.
