BRUSSELS--European Union regulators Monday said they would pursue their probe into Swiss building materials group Holcim Ltd's (HCMLY) planned acquisition of Cemex SAB de CV (CEMEX.MX), and won't hand the case over to the Germany's competition authority.
The European Commission said the deal would affect more than one national market and that it couldn't therefore refer the assessment of the transaction to Germany.
Holcim has made a bid to acquire part of Cemex's activities in cement, ready-mix concrete and cementitious materials in western Germany as well as in a small number of plants in France and the Netherlands.
The Commission has until 31 March 2014 to make a final decision.
