Nexteer Automotive, a maker of steering wheels and steering systems for the world's largest car makers, confirmed Wednesday it will move its headquarters to a northern suburb of Detroit in order to be closer to the core of the U.S. auto industry.
Chief Operating Officer Laurent Bresson said the move from Saginaw, Mich., to Auburn Hills will be completed during the second quarter of 2016. He said only the headquarters, employing about 150, is moving. The plant and engineering facilities, home to about 5,000 employees, will remain in Saginaw, located about 100 miles northwest of Detroit.
"This stand-alone location will position us closer to our business partners and industry experts," Mr. Bresson said.
The move is a boost for Auburn Hills, which already serves as the headquarters for Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV's U.S. arm and other parts makers such as BorgWarner Inc.
