AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Oct. 17 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The BorgWarner High Energy ITM3e(TM) AWD System and The BorgWarner Turbo & Emissions Systems Gasoline Turbocharger with Variable Turbine Geometry have been named finalists for the 2007 PACE Awards. "Our ability to provide innovative solutions to the challenges our global customers face in the areas of fuel economy, reduced emissions and vehicle performance is what makes BorgWarner a technology leader," said Tim Manganello, BorgWarner Chairman and CEO. "Our ITM3e(TM) AWD system and VTG gasoline turbocharger are outstanding examples of this. We're proud of this recognition by the PACE judges, and pleased to have two innovations among this year's 23 distinguished PACE finalists." The BorgWarner High Energy ITM3e(TM) AWD System is the first industrialized all-wheel drive (AWD) coupling that combines a mechanical system, active gerotor pump, thermal management and new AWD control algorithms into a fully dynamic system that provides world-class performance in a package space only passive systems could achieve previously. VTG turbocharger technology was until recently limited to diesel engines. BorgWarner's technical achievement is the development of design parameters and materials capable of withstanding the much higher exhaust gas temperatures that are generated in gasoline engines. These are particularly important for new, direct-injection gasoline engine technologies. Key features of the turbocharger are its adjustable guide vanes, which improve engine response in the lower rpm range, compared to a conventional turbocharger with a wastegate. Presented by Microsoft, SAP, Transportation Research Center Inc. (TRC Inc.) and Automotive News, the PACE Awards celebrate innovation by original equipment suppliers in products and processes. Winners are selected by an independent panel of judges and will be announced April 16, 2007 during the SAE World Congress in Detroit. PACE stands for Premier Automotive Suppliers' Contribution to Excellence. This year marks the 13th annual award competition. Both BorgWarner technologies are finalists in the Product - Europe category, which recognizes innovations developed or first commercialized in Europe that have significant market impact and act as "game changers" in the automotive industry. BorgWarner won a 2005 PACE Award for its DualTronic(TM) wet-clutch and control-system technology for a new-concept automated transmission. Auburn Hills, Michigan-based BorgWarner Inc. (NYSE:BWA) is a product leader in highly engineered components and systems for vehicle powertrain applications worldwide. The FORTUNE 500 company operates manufacturing and technical facilities in 63 locations in 18 countries.
