Bank of New York Mellon Corp. said Wednesday it named Dermot McDonogh as chief financial officer effective Feb. 1, 2023.

The company said Emily Portney will continue serving as CFO through Jan. 31, 2023 and will then assume a new role leading the company's treasury services, credit services, and clearance and collateral management businesses.

Mr. McDonogh will join the company on Nov. 1, the company said.

Mr. McDonogh joins BNY Mellon from Goldman Sachs Group Inc., where he has worked for more than 25 years, most recently as chief operating officer for Europe the Middle East and Africa and CEO of Goldman Sachs International Bank.

Before becoming CFO in 2020, Ms. Portney led the Americas region for the Asset Servicing business as well as the client management, sales and service teams for Asset Servicing globally.

Prior to BNY Mellon, Ms. Portney was CFO for Barclays International. She began her career with J.P. Morgan, where she held various leadership roles across businesses and functions during her 23 years with the company.

In March, Bank of New York Mellon said Thomas Gibbons would retire as chief executive on Aug. 31, after a 36-year career with the company. The company appointed Robin Vince, vice chair of BNY Mellon and CEO of global market infrastructure, to be his successor at that time.
