Shares of London-listed BHP Billiton PLC (BBL, BLT.LN) rose 2.7% to $58.68 while shares of Australia-listed BHP Billiton Ltd. (BHP, BHP.AU) rose 1.2% to $62.20.

Shire Pharmaceuticals LLC has agreed to pay $56.5 million to settle allegations that it overstated the efficacy of several of its drugs, including the attention-deficit treatment Adderall XR, the U.S. Department of Justice said Wednesday. Shire shares rose 2.1% to $256.09.
