BlackBerry said Wednesday that it has secured a contract to create and sustain a new super-enterprise for its personnel emergency notification system, also known as PENS, for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
The contract is indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity--a type of contract that provides for an undetermined quantity of products or services during the seven-year lifetime of the agreement.
The Canadian security-software company said it will partner with American Systems and 4 Points Technology to deliver on the software and services contract, which is for DHS and all its components.
The U.S. agency is expected to use BlackBerry AtHoc, its secure critical event-management solution, as a department-wide communication and visibility PENS solution for all its employees and contractors.
No financial details of the contract were disclosed.
Earlier this month, BlackBerry announced that it would pursue an initial public offering for its Internet-of-Things business, separating the IoT and Cybersecurity business units into two independent companies.
