Spirit AeroSystems Inc., a supplier for Boeing Co., said it would pause work for the planemaker at Spirit's Wichita, Kan., facilities and in Tulsa and McAlester, Okla., from March 25 until April 8.
The move comes after Boeing decided to suspend production at its Washington state facilities. Spirit said Tuesday it would continue supporting 787 work for Boeing's Charleston, S.C., facility as needed.
Spirit said it would continue paying employees who are sent home during the two-week period. The company said it would use the time to sanitize its facilities.
Once production resumes, Spirit said it would align costs and workforce to Boeing's new level of production, potentially resulting in "additional workforce actions."
Spirit said it will continue to operate for its defense customers, Airbus SE, maintenance, repair and overhaul, third-party fabrication work and other non-Boeing work.
