Boeing Sees Potential Widebody Jet Sale to Saudi Airline

Boeing Co. said Sunday it had agreed to the potential sale of 16 widebody jets to a Saudi Arabian airline and a range of equipment for the country's armed forces.

The aerospace giant said SaudiGulf Airlines is looking to acquire up to 16 twin-aisle jets, though it didn't identify the model or potential delivery dates in a market where sales have been sluggish over the past two years.

The weekend bonanza of potential arms sales signed during President Donald Trump's state visit to Saudi Arabia included Boeing Chinook helicopters, a previously-announced agreement that has already been cleared by Congress.

Saudi Arabia also wants to acquire an unspecified number of Boeing's P-8 maritime patrol aircraft based on its popular 737 jetliner, the company said in a statement. The U.S. Navy, India and Australia have already bought the P-8.

Boeing said this weekend's agreements included a new helicopter service joint venture in Saudi Arabia, and plans to establish other military maintenance and support facilities in the country.
