With snow storm Jonas barreling up the East Coast, New York American Water is asking homeowners and local businesses to clear snow from around fire hydrants so that firefighters can connect their equipment without delays. Deep snow can obstruct fire hydrants and become a hindrance in fighting fires successfully.
“While our customers are removing snow from their walkways, we hope they’d take a few minutes to also remove snow from fire hydrants,” said Brian Bruce, president of New York American Water. “In the event of a fire emergency, the hydrants will be more visible to firefighters and give them easy access to connect their hoses. We thank our customers for their cooperation and remind them to take all necessary precautions during the storm to stay safe.”
New York American Water is preparing for the storm and will make every effort to ensure that customers’ water service is not interrupted.
