New Jersey American Water Investing $3.1 Million in Morris and Somerset Counties

Beginning this month, New Jersey American Water will be investing $3.1 million in new water mains in its services areas in Morris and Somerset counties. The approximate 10,700 feet of new pipe replaces water main that was installed as far back as the 1920s. The aging 4- and 6-inch water lines will be replaced with 8- and 12-inch ductile iron pipes. These projects also include replacing fire hydrants and utility-owned service lines along the pipeline route.

"These improvements should enhance water service reliability and water flows for residences and fire protection,” stated Tom Shroba, senior director of Operations, North Region. "These water main improvements are part of New Jersey American Water's multimillion dollar program to accelerate the renewal of water infrastructure that is reaching the end of its useful life."

In Bernardsville:This project will be along Highview Avenue, from Anderson Hill Road to Olcott Avenue. Weather permitting, the project will begin on or about February 20 and will take approximately two months to complete. The project should be completed in approximately two months. Final pacing and restoration will be completed by Bernardsville Borough and scheduled for summer of 2017.

In Chatham Township:This project will be along Lafayette Avenue, from Southern Boulevard to Shunpike Road/Watchung Avenue. Work will begin after school hours on February 17 and, weather permitting; the project will be completed in approximately two months. Final paving and restoration will be completed in the fall of 2017.

In Mendham:This project will be along Browning Court and Thackery Lane, from Corey Lane to the end of the roadways. Browning Court project will begin on or about February 17 and will be completed by mid-April. Thackery Lane will begin mid-March and will be completed by mid-May. Final paving and restoration will be completed in the summer of 2017.
