American Water to have strong presence with participation in 13 sessions
American Water (NYSE: AWK), the nation’s largest publicly traded water and wastewater utility company, announced today the company will play an active role in the American Water Works Association (AWWA) Annual Conference (ACE16) from June 19-22 in Chicago, Ill. American Water will have a strong presence at the conference with several expert presenters participating in a total of 13 sessions.
On June 20, Dr. Mark LeChevallier, vice president & chief environmental officer, will participate in a panel titled "Utility Perspectives on Innovation" and discuss some examples of American Water’s recent innovations. Later that day, he will speak on a panel titled “Occurrence and Risk Management of Legionella in Recycled Water Systems” and highlight American Water's research. LeChevallier will also accept an award for the “Distribution & Plant Operations Division’s Best Paper” for his team’s paper on Microbial Risk Modeling for Main Breaks that appeared in the February 2015 issue of AWWA’s Journal.
Dave Hughes, Water Research manager, will make a presentation titled “Silence of the Lines: Substantial Leak Reduction With Acoustic Monitoring” and highlight the success in bringing Echologics correlating acoustic monitoring into American Water to accelerate the detection of hidden leaks. Later, he will discuss the improved "ductile" iPVC Pipe in two separate presentation sessions describing the testing and field installation of the pipe imported from Korea in research funded by the Water Research Foundation.
To end the day, LeChevallier will participate in a session titled “Innovations in Distribution System Optimization” and discuss pressure management and leak detection. Disinfectant residual, pressure management, and main breaks are key components of distribution system optimization based on Partnership for Safe Water (PSW) guidelines. This presentation will feature innovative solutions for distribution system optimization.
On June 22, Dr. Orren Schneider, manager, Water Technology, will present about the “Development of a Smart Water Management System” and discuss the BIRD Foundation project being conducted with IOSight. The company is implementing a data management and reporting system to compile and report multiple sources of operational data and building a layer of data analytics to help optimize pumping operations and chemical pretreatment dosages.
As the conference comes to a close, Hughes will present findings from another Water Research Foundation project titled “Braving Backflow or Crying Wolf” and discuss the value of metering systems that can detect reverse flow in meters.
