Alcon, the global leader in eye care dedicated to helping people see brilliantly, today announced that it has been named one of the ‘Best Employers in Singapore’ for the second consecutive year in addition to its recognition in 2021. This prestigious recognition underscores Alcon’s unwavering commitment to building a strong culture of excellence where all associates can bring their best to work.
In this year’s survey, Alcon achieved second place in the ‘Health Care Equipment & Services’ industry category compared to third place in 2023. This accolade comes from a comprehensive survey conducted by The Straits Times, a leading daily newspaper in Singapore. The ‘Best Employers’ study evaluates companies through a large-scale survey in which associates participate anonymously. The survey includes questions about the willingness to recommend their own company to friends or family (‘direct recommendation’) and the willingness to recommend other companies within the same industry (‘indirect recommendation’). Scores range from 0 to 10, with greater weight given to indirect recommendation scores.
Alcon Singapore, which received high scores in this year’s ‘Best Employers in Singapore’ evaluation, believes that its purpose of helping people See Brilliantly is best activated when people can be their true, authentic selves. As such, Alcon regularly conducts the ‘Associate Experience Dashboard (AED)’ to gather associates’ opinions and suggestions about the work environment.
The company is specifically committed to providing associates with valuable experiences by expanding engagement opportunities across three key areas: Diversity & Inclusion, Social Impact and Sustainability, and Talent Development.
Fostering Diversity & Inclusion
Alcon Singapore actively promotes inclusive collaboration and communication through cultural events and associate-led sports programs, which strengthen bonds and cooperation across functions. With the support of the ‘Diversity & Inclusion Committee’ and the Singapore Leadership Team, Alcon has established an Employee Resource Group called ‘Women Supporting Women’. This group aims to enhance female leadership through career development and mentoring, fostering a work environment where all associates are respected and can grow.
Driving Social Impact and Sustainability (SIS)
Under the SIS strategy, Alcon Singapore participates annually in the global social impact activity ‘Alcon in Action’, a global day of volunteering. In May, 135 associates from Alcon Singapore engaged in community gardening and seed gift box making at ‘City Sprouts’, an urban farming project. The 130 gift boxes created by company associates were donated to three local non-profit organizations: Sunlove Nursing Home, the Singapore Boys’ Hostel called TRYBE, and the Cerebral Palsy Alliance Singapore (CPAS). Each year, the company also celebrates World Sight Day, an event dedicated to raising awareness on the global issue of avoidable blindness and vision impairment, reinforcing Alcon’s mission to help people ‘See Brilliantly’ by advocating for better eye health and access to quality eye care around the world.
Unleashing the potential of associates
Alcon Singapore recently upgraded its ‘Development In Action’ (DIA) program, empowering associates to discover meaningful growth in their daily work. The DIA program is designed to inspire associates through a continuous cycle of learning, growing, and repeating. Leveraging the 70-20-10 growth model, Alcon has created opportunities for associates to share their experiences and inspire each other, thereby expanding their scope of work. This model emphasizes that various experiences, such as individual tasks, field visits, and job rotations, are crucial elements that significantly impact the growth process.
As part of this initiative, Alcon invited Jia Jiang, one of the world’s top 10 motivational speakers, to highlight one of Alcon’s key Employee Value Propositions: the realization of individual potential. This session received enthusiastic responses, with participation from Alcon associates worldwide.
Preneet Bindra, Head of HR, Alcon Asia Pacific, said, “We are delighted that Alcon Singapore has once again been named one of the ‘Best Employers in Singapore’. Especially since the results are based on associate evaluations, we believe in co-creating a work environment that fosters a strong sense of pride, camaraderie and trust.” She added, “At Alcon Singapore, we have invested in creating valuable experiences for our associates through various development and culture building programs, growth opportunities and engagement with wider enterprise initiatives. We believe that these valuable experiences at work have helped to strengthen our connection to Alcon and our purpose of helping people see brilliantly.”
