Annual flu vaccination program will begin October 1 WOONSOCKET, R.I., Sept. 23 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- CVS/pharmacy (NYSE: CVS) announced today that it will offer flu vaccinations in more than 3,500 stores across the country. The clinics will begin on Saturday, October 1 and last through late November. For dates, times and specific locations, customers should call 1-800-SHOP-CVS and choose option #1, or visit http://www.cvs.com/'s Store Finder to locate a CVS/pharmacy flu clinic in their area. "Our annual flu clinics are part of our role as a health care provider to help our customers stay healthy," said Jon Roberts, R.Ph., Senior Vice President of Store Operations at CVS/pharmacy. "We encourage people to stop by their local CVS/pharmacy during a scheduled clinic to get their shot before the flu season peaks this winter." CVS/pharmacy flu clinics will follow the recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) in the administration of flu shots and give priority to the following high-risk groups until October 23: people over the age of 65, residents in long-term care facilities, people with chronic health conditions, women who are pregnant, health care personnel who provide direct patient care, and household and out-of-home caregivers of children under 6 months old. Influenza vaccinations are especially important for adults who have chronic pulmonary or cardiovascular disease, including asthma, and adults who have required regular medical follow-up or hospitalization during the past year due to chronic metabolic diseases, kidney dysfunction, blood disorders or immune system problems. The cost of a flu shot at CVS/pharmacy will vary depending on the location of the clinic. Pneumonia vaccinations will also be available at most locations. Vaccines for Medicare Part B patients who present their Medicare Card will be available at no charge, provided they have not assigned their Medicare benefits to an HMO. CVS is America's largest retail pharmacy, operating more than 5,400 retail and specialty pharmacy stores in 37 states and the District of Columbia.
