Visteon's Speed-to-Market is Demonstrated in Third Game-Changing Technology
Application for Satellite Radio
DEARBORN, Mich., March 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Visteon Corporation's
focus, customer commitment and speed-to-market is evidenced by its third
game-changing achievement in the development of satellite radio. Visteon will
soon deliver satellite radio for an automaker using an electrical architecture
that will help speed introduction and integration of new in-vehicle multimedia
informationas well as communications features.

Visteon knows automakers are looking for innovative, efficient, reliable ways to
meet the consumer's demand for increased in-vehicle infotainment. Meeting this
challenge would traditionally require increased wiring and more demanding data
handling technology. Visteon worked to apply plastic optical fiber vehicle
network architecture to provide a common transport mechanism for the necessary
communication allowing transmission of speech and data signals for multimedia
and infotainment systems.
Combining their expertise in developing and delivering unique infotainment
solutions with the application of new system technology, Visteon engineers have
successfully received satellite and terrestrial radio signals using this open
architecture and are moving development toward launch in a future vehicle.
Working with a customer, Visteon is finding ways to help reduce weight by
removing bulky wiring harnesses and improving reliability through removal of
less reliable hard plastic connectors.
Visteon's previous achievements in satellite radio include being the first Tier
I auto supplier to develop a radio receiver that decoded and played back
satellite radio signals using an Agere Systems chipset. This industry-first
achievement was followed less than nine months later by the introduction of a
single-design, signal-playback, head-unit and digital radio receiver subsystem
that could receive and decode either XM or SIRIUS broadcasts.
The single-design packaging solution was developed specifically with the
automaker and consumer in mind. Visteon's customer and consumer research shows
that consumers want to personalize their automobile and have a choice of
satellite radio service providers. Automakers want to meet the needs of
consumers cost-effectively. Visteon's commitment to helping customers
differentiate their vehicles is resulting in continued innovation and the
development of cost-effective solutions. This single solution (receiver and
downlink processor) is moving into production in less than a year and is another
example of how Visteon is anticipating customer needs for features and
technologies to differentiate their vehicles.
Visteon's expertise in digital audio is also leading the way in the development
and delivery of HD Radio as original equipment. Visteon's electronics and
digital audio expertise have resulted in original equipment contracts for
automakers based in North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific.
"We are pleased to be on the leading edge of delivering digital audio and
helping our customers deliver technology consumers want," said John Kill,
Visteon's vice president of product development. "We are focused with
disciplined processes that help us bring technology to market quickly. In this
case, we have had year-over-year distinctive innovation -- not many companies
can make this claim."
