Visteon Offers Insight on Vehicle Technologies at SAE 2004 World Congress
DEARBORN, Mich., March 8 /PRNewswire/ -- When the doors of Cobo Center in
Detroit open on March 8, 2004, the Society of Automotive Engineers 2004 World
Congress will usher in experts to share their knowledge about high-performance
vehicles, whether they be race cars or regular cars. Among the experts are
Visteon Corporation engineers who will present a number of technical papers
showcasing products that conserve power, increase filtration and improve
electric motor performance.

Visteon's technical papers describe how a new, patented long-life filter, using
multi-layered reticulated foam, increases the efficiency and dust- holding
capacity of the air intake filter. This technology now brings to the OE market
the same type of air intake filters previously only available in the aftermarket
for motorcycles and high-performance vehicles.
Visteon engineersalso have developed a swiveling low beam headlamp, along with
an additional unit for side illumination, which improves visibility and safety.
The improved illumination of curves and intersections helps reduce driver stress
associated with difficult nighttime driving conditions. Another Visteon
lighting innovation uses high-performance white light-emitting diodes for
forward illumination.
Continuing to offer better performance in the passenger compartment, Visteon
engineers developed a heat pump system that provides superior quick heating in
an efficient, environmentally friendly package. Visteon's air conditioning
system with heat pump is an innovative solution that expands the functionality
of today's R134a refrigerant-based A/C system by adding the capability to act as
a supplemental heat source. The heat pump capability would be fully integrated
into the A/C system and would eliminate the need for other types of supplemental
heat such as fuel-operated heaters.
Other Visteon papers address the development of a reliable high-torque electric
motor for hybrid vehicles and the use of finite element simulation to determine
the effect of design variables on driveshaft dynamic behavior.
"Each year the SAE World Congress offers an opportunity for those of us in the
automotive industry to learn more about technological advancements and the
changing global industry," said John Kill, Visteon vice president of Product
Development. "We're pleased to share what we've learned with our engineering
colleagues and to benefit from their knowledge as well. This year's largest
program ever helps focus the industry on our collective goal-delivering products
our customers need and the consumers want."
