At the technical overview, presented to a select group of journalists attending
the 2004 SAE World Congress, Kill introduced the seven global directors of
Visteon's product line teams. The PLT leaders are: Ron Andrade, director,
innovation and advanced business; Joy Greenway, director, powertrain; Jean de
Montlaur, director, interiors; Randy Sanders, director, chassis; Dieter Schaper,
director, exterior; Wolfgang Schramm, director, climate; and Martin Thoone,
director, electronics.
With this team of experienced, global leaders, Visteon's customer-facing
structure is well positioned to understand every automaker's design intent and
brand image for each vehicle. Visteon's PLT leaders are committed to technology
in a fast, flexible and flawless manner.
Visteon innovative technologies showcased at the event include:
* The new premium audio system Visteon developed jointly with Boston Acoustics,
which will debut on the 2005 Chrysler 300 and Dodge Magnum later this year.
* MACH(R) Voice Link, the auto industry's first voice-activated, hands- free
mobile phone system.
* The integrated cockpit module Visteon produces for the Nissan Titan,
Pathfinder Armada, Nissan Quest and Infiniti QX56 in Canton, Mississippi.
The sense of sound - through innovation
When it comes toautomotive audio systems, Visteon is an innovator with the
capability to quickly bring premium-branded audio systems and advanced digital
audio to market. In less than 24 months, Visteon and its partner, Boston
Acoustics Inc. (NYSE:BOSA), worked with Chrysler to combine Boston's audiophile
speakers and acoustical know-how with Visteon's electronic, digital signal
processing technology and in-car expertise to bring The Boston Sound(TM) to the
Chrysler 300 and the Dodge Magnum in North America, which were displayed at the
Chicago Auto Show. This premium audio system will be available on both vehicles
later in 2004.
In addition, this year Visteon will become the first, and only, supplier of an
integrated, factory-installed voice-activated Bluetooth(R) wireless phone system
in automotive production for use in both North America and Europe. Today,
Visteon supplies the Bluetooth(R) Wireless Interface Module in Europe for the
BMW 3 and 5 Series. In 2004, BMW will offer this capability in North America on
the new X3, which was showcased at the Chicago Auto Show, and the X5.
Visteon also demonstrates its innovation expertise through the integrated
cockpit module it is supplying on the Nissan Titan pickup truck, Pathfinder
Armada, Quest minivan andInfiniti QX56. In addition, Visteon supplies the
heating, ventilation and air conditioning system and controls, and the
instrument cluster, along with the center console.
Corvette lighting improves driver visibility
The all-new Chevrolet Corvette delivers improved visibility with Visteon's High
Intensity Discharge Projector headlamps. These unique lights provide power and
precision advantages that are certain to impress drivers of this classic
performance vehicle. As its name implies, HID provides a very high- intensity
light produced from an electric arc inside a capsule filled with xenon gas. The
arc produces significantly more light than the glowing filament found in halogen
lighting.
Visteon also demonstrates its advanced Light Emitting Diode lighting technology
on a Toyota Sequoia demonstration vehicle. The Sequoia, which is a testing
vehicle Visteon uses for advanced technologies, also features its HD Radio(TM)
system exhibited earlier this year at the 2004 Consumer Electronics Showin Las
Vegas.
HD Radio enables consumers to receive a digital signal that provides CD quality
audio for FM radio and FM quality audio for AM radio. In addition, by combining
HD Radio with Visteon's MACH(R) Digital Signal Processing technologies, Visteon
enables consumers to enjoy high-quality graphics by displaying a radio station's
frequency, the program content, song title and artist name, stock and news
information and local traffic and weather reports in real time.
Visteon's Chevrolet Silverado demonstration vehicle serves as a test bed for
three other Visteon products that will be coming to market soon. These include
a dockable Family Entertainment System. Visteon adapted a DVD-player, allowing
a consumer to remove it easily from the vehicle headliner to use it in the home,
office or any other location outside the vehicle. This dockable application can
be rapidly developed as a factory-installed option for new vehicles or easily
installed as an aftermarket product.
Also found on the Silverado is Visteon's GlideMaster(TM) rear window.
GlideMaster(TM) gives truck owners the convenience, comfort and versatility of a
rear-sliding window using a frameless window package with flush glass that
enhances the truck's rear-cab profile and gives the consumer options for
customization. The sliding portion of the window is easily removed for
etching.
Visteon's HUMMER H2 Wireless Connectivity vehicle brings entertainment and
computing access into the vehicle and home. Demonstrated with a homekiosk, to
which the H2 is wirelessly networked, the vehicle enables the driver to turn on
lights, start dinner, set the in-home temperature and start a DVD or CD before
entering the house.
The H2 also features a wireless charging pad in the console. The pad eliminates
the need for power cords, cradles and adapters. Driver or passengers can
wirelessly charge cell phones, personal digital assistants and other small
portable devices.
