The technical center, representing a $1.5 million investment, is adjacent to a
climate control production plant. The new 1,000 square-meter facility houses
climate control product planning, core development, product design, process
engineering, simultaneous engineering and engineering change teams as well as a
prototype shop. Product development covers a wide range of components with a
focus on fluid transport and heat exchangers. In total, around 100 engineers
and technicians are located at the new technical center.
Visteon's Autopal subsidiary has operated a smaller technical center in Novy
Jicin since 1993, which was consolidated into the new facility. The new tech
center illustrates Visteon's increasing role as a supplier of climate control
systems to car manufacturers across Europe.
"Our decision to expand the current development and engineering capacities in
the Czech Republic supports our strategy to further grow our climate control
business in Europe," said Dr. Heinz Pfannschmidt, Visteon's executive vice
president and president, Europe and South American operations. "Not only has
our Autopal subsidiary demonstrated that it complies to Visteon's highest
quality standards in both engineering and production, but the Czech team has
fostered support and networking with other locations including Visteon's
climate control center of excellence in Kerpen, Germany, and Visteon's
powertrain and engine cooling tech center in Basildon, U.K.," Pfannschmidt
said.
Pfannschmidt attended the inauguration ceremony for the new center with Dr.
Karl Krause, Visteon's manufacturing vice president for Europe and South
America.
Visteon, through its Autopal subsidiary and its more than 4,400 employees, has
gained a very strong position in the Czech Republic. Its production facilities
are located in Novy Jicin, Rychvald and Hluk. Its aftermarket trade subsidiary
is in Prague, and the aftermarket Central Eastern European warehouse is located
in Novy Jicin. A customer sales office for Skoda is located in Mlada Boleslav.
