Visteon Congratulates Hyundai on Its Most Improved Performance in
J.D. Power Initial Quality
DEARBORN, Mich., May 17 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Visteon Corporation , which
made a small contribution as a supplier, congratulates Hyundai Motor Co. on its
impressive improvement in J.D. Power & Associates 2004 Initial Quality Survey,
particularly through a 45 percent improvement in the perceived quality of
Visteon's Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning systems supplied across
Hyundai's vehicle lines.

J.D. Power's annual IQS solicited responses from 51,000 consumers regarding
their satisfaction with their vehicles during the first 90 days of ownership.
The relative performance of automakers is measured in terms of problems per 100
vehicles. Those problems cover a broad range of issues, but are heavily
weighted toward defects and malfunctions, quality of workmanship, drivability
and safety.
Visteon supplies cockpit modules on the Hyundai Santa Fe, Tiburon, and Elantra
models and instrument panels on the Sonata, XG350, and Accent models, all sold
in the U.S. The cockpit modules and instrument panels are produced by
Visteon's interior joint venture, Duck Yang Industry Co., while the heating,
ventilation and air conditioning systems are produced by Visteon's climate
systems joint venture, Halla Climate Control Corp., both located in South
Korea.
Survey respondents who had recently purchased any of those six vehicles found
an average of 6.85 problems per 100 vehicles in the way their vehicle's heating
and cooling worked, slightly more than half the 12.4 heating and cooling
problems per 100 vehicles cited in the 2003 survey. That was 29 percent better
than the industry average of 9.64 problems per 100 vehicles for HVAC
satisfaction.
Manufacturers of Korean-branded vehicles, strongly driven by Hyundai's
performance, have reduced initial quality problems by 57 percent in the past
six years -- going from 272 problems per 100 vehicles (PP100) in 1998 to just
117 PP100 in 2004.
"We are happy to play a contributing role in Hyundai's strong performance in
the J.D. Power Initial Quality survey," said Young-Ju Shin, president of Halla
Climate Control. "We look forward to building on this important relationship."
