ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., Dec. 8, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- U-Haul intends to have its newest company-owned and -operated facility in the Albuquerque area up and running by late fall 2017.

U-Haul acquired the vacant lot on the northeast corner of Coors Blvd. NW and Interstate 40 on Oct. 31 and is in the process of finalizing details for a state-of-the-art facility to be constructed there.

The 5.41-acre property will feature a three-story building, a single-story building and two rows of outdoor drive-up self-storage. Plans call for a total of 1,032 self-storage units with 82,181 rentable square feet of self-storage. Indoor and outdoor self-storage will be available with 53 percent of the units offering climate control.

"This property acquisition will give the Westside community a premium do-it-yourself moving option," U-Haul Company of Northern New Mexico president Tom Neill said. "There has never been a U-Haul-owned facility on this side of town."

U-Haul Moving & Storage at Coors & I-40 will also offer truck and trailer rentals, towing equipment and professional hitch installation, moving supplies, boxes and more. Propane is expected to be available sometime after opening.

Neill said U-Haul will look to hire locally for the facility to promote job growth within the community. When this location is fully operational, he expects to employ at least 12 Team Members. U-Haul always encourages local contractors to bid on the construction work.

"Most of the housing growth is happening here in the Westside community," Neill said. "We are excited to serve our future customers in this area. U-Haul will provide these neighborhoods a much-needed product and service at a low cost."
