Intrado Inc. (NASDAQ: TRDO), a global provider of
integrated data and telecommunications solutions, and MedicAlert, the
market leader in healthcare infomatics, today announced an alliance to
provide subscriber-specific medical information during 9-1-1 calls.
This specialized data will supplement the traditional location and
telephone number information currently delivered with 9-1-1 calls.
One of the fundamental elements of the Intrado(R) Intelligent
Emergency Network(TM), Intrado's next generation, IP-based emergency
communications services network, is its ability to make additional
event-specific data proactively available to emergency personnel. The
agreement with MedicAlert helps to realize this vision by providing
first responders with vital medical information earlier in the
response cycle, enabling them to better prepare for and deliver
critical services when someone makes a 9-1-1 call.
"The more information available to first responders during an
emergency, the more likelihood of a positive outcome," said George
Heinrichs, Intrado chief executive officer. "The integration of
MedicAlert's subscriber medical data with the Intelligent Emergency
Network will expand the capabilities of the 9-1-1 network and allow
first responders to prepare more effectively for emergency
situations."
"For over 40 years MedicAlert has pioneered the rapid provision of
vital medical information to the emergency medical community," said
Paul Kortschak, president of MedicAlert. "Our capabilities, when
integrated into the Intrado Intelligent Emergency Network, represent
an exponential enhancement to the life-saving effectiveness of the
nation's 9-1-1 system."
Under the terms of the agreement, MedicAlert will manage and store
a subscriber's medical data within its existing secured data complex,
assigning each subscriber a MedicAlert ID number. With this ID,
emergency medical personnel are able to contact MedicAlert at any time
to retrieve the information as needed. The Intrado Intelligent
Emergency Network will serve as an additional storage platform for the
MedicAlert ID. In the event of a 9-1-1 call, Intrado will deliver the
MedicAlert ID or the medical information directly to the responding
PSAP's 9-1-1 call handling system along with the caller's telephone
number (automatic number information, or ANI) and physical address
(automatic location information, or ALI). Dispatchers can instantly
pass the ID along to responders for retrieval of the
subscriber-specific medical data prior to arriving on scene.
