Sanmina-SCI Partners With Uros to Deliver Goodspeed, the First Ever 10-Slot Sim Card Mobile Hotspot Device

SAN JOSE, Calif. and OULU, Finland, Nov. 8, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Sanmina-SCI Corporation (Nasdaq: SANM), a leading integrated manufacturing solutions company making some of the worlds most complex and innovative optical, electronic and mechanical products, and Uros, a provider of roaming-free Internet, today announced that they have collaborated to bring a new mobile hotspot device to market called Goodspeed. Sanmina-SCI is providing engineering and manufacturing services at its Haukipudas, Finland facility.

The mobile device and service called Goodspeed gives travelers practically unlimited data transfer abroad at a fixed low price. As a result, international travelers will not see sky-high Internet charges for data transfer when moving between countries. At launch, Goodspeed service works in major European countries, including Germany, the United Kingdom, France and Italy.

"We are pleased to be working with Sanmina-SCI and their manufacturing center in Haukipudas, Finland. The proximity of their engineers to our product development team has been essential in supporting our rapid product development and ramp up of Goodspeed," said Jerry Raatikainen, Vice President of Operations for Uros, Ltd. "After comprehensive due diligence, we selected Sanmina-SCI for their design and engineering, manufacturing and global footprint. As we plan to expand internationally, we are confident Sanmina-SCI can help us succeed in any market around the world."

"At Sanmina-SCI, we look for opportunities to work with innovative companies like Uros to bring complex new products to market," said Robert O'Rourke, Sanmina-SCI's Senior Vice President of Business Development in Europe. "Designing a device this size with 10 SIM slots, multiband radio, a large capacity battery and a high-performance antenna required sophisticated design for manufacturability expertise, which Sanmina-SCI was able to provide. Our team in Haukipudas worked in close collaboration with Uros' product developers to determine the right solutions for the design and rapid prototyping of Goodspeed to get it to market on time and on budget."

The costs of heavy Internet use among active travelers in Europe can be as much as a hundreds of Euros per day because of high-data roaming fees, and travel data bundles currently marketed by service providers reach their service ceiling quickly when working actively on a laptop or a tablet – not to mention loading videos or large files. In major travel hubs the percentage of business travel is typically very high (37 per cent of all air travel at London Heathrow in 2011). According to recent surveys, 59 per cent of business travelers want access to the kind of technology they enjoy at home. Uros' Goodspeed service, which includes a smartphone-sized device of the same name, solves the problem of expensive data transfer.

The device is a personal mobile hotspot that connects to a local telecommunications operator's network when a person travels abroad. While other mobile hotspot devices offer a single SIM slot, Goodspeed is the first device that has slots for ten SIM cards to accommodate multiple destination countries. The hotspot can simultaneously connect up to five portable devices from laptops to smartphones, allowing work teams to access the Internet at a fixed-price fee.

Sanmina-SCI's array of design, engineering, manufacturing, logistics and after-market services are being showcased at Booth #C1.105, Hall C1 during electronica 2012 in Messe München, Germany, November 13 – 16.
