Navient employees delivered the packages of non-perishable food, such as canned corn, potatoes and rice to Cornerstones. The donation will help supply the organization’s annual Thanksgiving Basket Food Drive. Formerly known as Reston Interfaith, the nonprofit organization provides support and advocacy for those in need of food, shelter, affordable housing, childcare, and other human services.

“For those with stressed budgets and financial challenges, a Thanksgiving dinner just isn’t possible,” said Kerrie Wilson, CEO, Cornerstones. ”Navient’s support of Cornerstones’ annual Thanksgiving Basket Food Drive will help make a fulfilling holiday possible for hundreds of families in our community who are struggling to feed themselves and keep a roof over their heads.”

With more than 200 employees at Navient’s Reston office, the vast majority donated food, valued on average at $20 per box. In addition, Navient donated $25 grocery gift cards to families with each completed box of food to purchase a turkey or other essential items for their Thanksgiving meals. The total value contributed was estimated at $21,000.

“Having access to a warm meal is a luxury that most of us simply take for granted, especially on Thanksgiving,” said Brian Lampe, director, Navient. “We’re proud of the dedication of our employees, and are grateful to once again have the opportunity to work with Cornerstones to ensure that families in our area will not go hungry on Thanksgiving.”
