(NASDAQ:CATY) announced today that Dunson K. Cheng, Chairman of the Board,
President, and Chief Executive Officer of Cathay General Bancorp, will be
presenting at the RBC Capital Markets Financial Institutions Conference on
Tuesday, September 28, 2004, at 8:25 a.m. EDT or 5:25 a.m. PDT.

RBC Capital Markets will make this conference available via Wall Street
Webcasting.  The audio webcast will be available to the general public
approximately ten minutes after the actual presentation at
