Advanced Supercon, Inc. (ASCI) in Billerica, Massachusetts, a new
subsidiary of Bruker Corporation (NASDAQ: BRKR), announced today that it
has hired Thomas M. Rosa as Chief Financial Officer and Senior Vice
President, and that it is establishing business development and customer
support operations in the U.S. under Mr. Rosa’s
leadership. The manufacturing operations of the Advanced Supercon
business and its present research and development for low temperature
superconductor (LTS) and high temperature superconductor (HTS) wires and
devices will remain in Europe. Over time, ASCI expects to conduct
selected superconducting device-related R&D projects also at its new
U.S. operations.
Mr. Rosa previously worked for over 14 years at American Superconductor
Corporation (AMSC) in Westborough, MA, where he served as Vice President
and CFO from March 2006 to July 2007, during which time he was involved
in two acquisitions in the wind and power electronics industries. Mr.
Rosa also served as Vice President of Finance and Accounting from 2003
to 2006, as Chief Accounting Officer from 1998 to 2003, and as Corporate
Controller of AMSC from 1992 to 1998. Prior to that, from 1982 to 1992,
he served in a variety of financial management positions at Lockheed,
Wang Labs and Prime Computer, where he was the division controller of
manufacturing operations.
“We’re delighted
that Tom has decided to join us in a lead management role in what we
expect to be an exciting growth opportunity for our new Advanced
Supercon business,” said Frank Laukien,
President and CEO of Bruker Corporation. “Tom
is not only very familiar with the HTS industry, but he brings a wealth
of financial expertise in the public markets to our Advanced Supercon
business. He helped grow his previous company from $3 million in revenue
when he first joined them to now approximately $100 million in annual
revenues. Tom also played a lead role in several public equity offerings
which raised an aggregate of over $350 million and he closed the
all-stock acquisitions of two companies in the renewable energy and
power electronics industries during his tenure as CFO. In short, his
background and experience present a perfect fit for our Advanced
Supercon business and we are now looking forward to Tom helping to drive
the growth of our LTS and HTS wire and devices businesses, particularly
also outside of the European markets where we’ve
traditionally been strong already.”
Tom Rosa commented: “I am very pleased to
join the Advanced Supercon business and look forward to playing an
important role not only in finance, but also in promoting global
awareness of ASCI as a high-quality provider of LTS and HTS wire
products and devices. We expect to make additional hires in the U.S. in
the near future as our business expands in North America as well as in
the Asia-Pacific region. We’re excited to be
getting the word out about the broad range of superconductor products we
offer or are developing here in the Advanced Supercon business,
including first-generation (BSCCO) and second-generation (YBCO) HTS wire
and medium temperature superconductor (MTS) magnesium diboride (MgB2)
wire. The Advanced Supercon business already manufactures and sells tens
of thousands of kilometers of high-performance LTS wire annually
worldwide, primarily for MRI, NMR, physics research and experimental
fusion magnets.”
