PITTSBURGH, Oct. 8, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Using ANSYS (NASDAQ: ANSS) system and software simulation solutions, Northrop Grumman Corporation is developing the next generation of Black Hawk helicopter cockpit display systems that must meet strict avionics standards within programmatic development timelines.

Northrop Grumman is using ANSYS® SCADE Suite® and SCADE Display® to provide scalable, fully integrated avionics software for the upgrade of the UH-60L Black Hawk cockpit to the digitized UH-60V and to meet safety-critical avionics standards such as DO-178C.

"ANSYS' commitment and involvement in Future Airborne Capability Environment (FACE™) includes support for ARINC-653, ARINC-661 and DO-178C," said Eric Bantegnie, ANSYS vice president for systems. "Using these proven solutions will allow Northrop to optimize its system and software strategies and reduce development costs."

Up to 750 UH-60L aircraft are expected to be modified to the UH-60V configuration, which represents the first fully integrated avionics system for U.S. Army utility aircraft.

"SCADE allows us to take full advantage of model-based engineering, resulting in improved development and testing efficiencies and delivering an affordable software sustainment approach across the program life cycle," said Simona Kelley, director of Army Avionics Programs at Northrop Grumman.

Companies like Northrup Grumman will share their model-based engineering successes at next week's SCADE User Group Conference in Paris.
